Motsepe: AFL has come to increase the economy of the club
The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Patrick Motsepe has said that the aim of the African Football League (AFL) championship is to help African clubs economically.
Motsepe has said that the teams participating in the championship are given a large amount of money and those who do better get bigger to help them do bigger things.
Motsepe added that the AFL will not kill the African Champions League and the Confederations Cup as some think, instead it has started to increase the economic power of the clubs.
"One of the goals of the AFL is to help them financially because we pay a large amount, our plans are to make African clubs modern."
"A large number of players from Africa want to play football in Europe because it is good and we want Africa to reach that stage," said Motsepe.
Motsepe has confirmed that next year the African Football Championship will feature 24 teams instead of the eight that will participate this season.
